THE LAST SIN

“Father, forgive me, because I have sinned”.-said He, at the moment that He sat on that wooden bench, in the church’s confessional .Many sinners have passed there but He was the biggest one of them.
“When was the last time you confessed?”-answered the father.
“I am afraid that it was a long time ago…”
“That’s not good, my son. So what was your sin?”

He laughed as soon as that question came out of the priest’s mouth .He knew  that the priest would judge him, but he didn’t care…he hadn’t got much time.

“I have killed.”

Suddenly there came a cough, the priest was scared, He could feel it, even smell it!

“So who did you kill, my son?”
“Irrelevant, I only came here for forgiveness .Your forgiveness.”
“M...m...m…my forgiveness? Why do you need my forgiveness?”
“Because, I am about to sin again…”

3 DAY EARLIER

“God, forgive me, because I am about to sin. Not for revenge nor for pride, but for justice”.-prayed Richard, on his knees next to his bed. –“I will know if I was forgiven, sir…and entirely grateful for your mercy. My job has got to be done; if not for me by anyone else it won’t be done. Forgive me.”

A knocking on his door made him get up and answer it. The moment he put his and on the golden knob, he smiled, he knew who was coming.
“Who’s there?”-asked

“Who do you think it is? Come on worry up, I ain’t got all day!-a British voice answered .Richard opened the door and the man entered the chamber.

“Very nice house, man .But let’s get to business. What do you want?”

“Information. I need you to tell me in which church or parish is father Gregory Helms”

“Gregory Helms let me see”-am he just stood there, thinking, for some seconds-“Yeah I know him, stupid old geezer down at the First Baptism Church, he’s the priest. Boring old man”

“Thank you, you have been a true help, may God reward you.” Said Richard taking his wallet off his pocket and giving him some notes, then he walked away from Richards’s house.

The next second, Richard was coming out too. Still putting his jacket he reached the car and headed for the First Baptism Church. While, he was in the car he started remembering what happened two weeks before this day.

The police inspector knocked at his house, with two other officers. That day changed Richard’s life .The inspector regretted to tell him that his wife and son were dead.

“She was in the church, confessing and when she came out she was shot, I am so sorry, but she didn’t make it to the hospital.”
Those words echoed in Richard’s mind .Little voices in his brain saying that he didn’t have a reason to live anymore.

“We’ve got a suspect; he is in custody, in a local police station, but unfortunately if we haven’t got any evidences to keep him there, we will be forced to send him away.”-continued the inspector. Finely, those words brought something to Richard’s head, justice.

“…of course we can’t tell you who is the person, but we will find something to convict him, I am sure that’s our criminal.”

“Sorry for your lost, sir”-said one of the officers that followed the inspector out of Richard’s house.

As soon as the inspector left, Richard went to his pocket and took out his mobile phone, dialled some numbers and just said:

”Find out who killed my wife, at the police station they already got a name, find out who is that, motherfucker, and hurry up please.”

Two days later and a piece of paper bring Richard the hope he needed; he was determined to make justice. The moment, he opened that piece of paper his eyes didn’t wanted to believe what he was seeing. It couldn’t be, but anyhow justice had to be made.

The road was bumpy and the traffic was inexistent .Richard started to speed up in his car, he had no time to spend, he would revenge his wife’s death .When, finally he arrived, the confessional was waiting for him…

“Am I speaking to father Gregory Helms? “- asked He

“I am afraid not, my son. He had to get away from this stressful place, the police and everything. Once again I am sorry, son, but he isn’t here”-answered the priest

“Fuck”-He screamed scaring the poor priest. Quickly, He rose from his seat and from his pocket toke out a revolver and pointed it to the man’s head.

“Useless piece of crap” He said, and then the silence was interrupted by the cold sound of the shot. The priest fell on the church’s floor.
Once again from his pocket, Richard took his phone out and dilled the same numbers He dilled last time.

“Stupid moron, he is no long in First Baptism you’ve got a quarter of an hour to come up with that address or church or whatever that is…tic tac”-and He hung up.
Fifteen minutes later, Richard’s phone rang again.

“Where’s he?”

“He is in Daleville Baptism, sir…Really close to the one you’re in.”

“You better hope so; I will do it tomorrow, now I am not really in the mood”

The next day, as soon as Richard woke up, he left home and went, this time, to Daleville Baptism Church. When he got there the confessional was waiting for him.

“Am I speaking to the father Gregory Helms?”-He asked.

“Of course you are,”-He smiled-“What is it, my boy?”

“So who did you kill, my son?”

“Irrelevant, I only came here for forgiveness .Your forgiveness.”

“M...m...m…my forgiveness? Why do you need my forgiveness?”

“Because, I am about to sin again…”

Once again his Smith & Wesson came out of his pocket, but this time it was pointing to Gregory Helms.

“You stupid son of a bitch, you killed my wife.”

“No, please I didn’t kill anyone. I swear to G….”- at that time one bullet was shot, and one man felled on his feet.

“You’re safe, father Helms”-said a voice

“Did you killed that man, inspector?”-asked the priest, to the man holding the gun that just saved him.

“No, only shot his leg, nothing important there.”

“Thank you inspector, thank you so much for saving my life”

“How could you do this, inspector?”-He asked

“I wouldn’t let you kill an innocent man!”-the inspector answered

“What? He killed my wife!”

“Unfortunately for you, you’re wrong. I am sorry to tell you that…we have proves to tell us that your wife committed suicide after leaving the church, that’s why she went to confess.”-explained the inspector-“please father Helms, could you tell us what Sophie confessed to you in that confessional?”

“I want to make this sure, I am only telling that poor woman’s confessions, to help figuring out this scam!”-started the priest-“I am afraid to tell that she was cheating on her husband, that I presume it’s this man who just tried to kill me! She felt so miserably that she came to confess, and then came your part, inspector.”

“That is not true! You liar! You killed her!”- He screamed.

“Why would I kill anyone? I am a God’s soldier, why would I want to kill that poor woman?”

“It can’t be! I was so sure. This can’t be true”-He screamed

“Kurt, arrest this man!”
A man walked thords him with a par of hand cups that were, moments after, putted in his hands.

“Done, sir”-said Kurt with is British voice, Robert looked astonished.

“Oh My God, you’re the British bastard”-then it all started to come to Richard's head , that was the man in his house , the day of the inspector visit.Sorry for your lost, sir

“Richard Walker, you’re arrested for the murder of Mr. Armando Nunez, priest from First Baptism Church and attempted murder of the priest Gregory Helms. I am afraid to tell you that I think you will be in Death Row”

And so He was; two weeks later, chained to his iron bed, Robert received his last visit a visit from the regular priest from the prison, to be given his last regrets, for one last confession.

“Father, forgive me, because I have sinned”.-said He

“I know, my son…, I know”

Very good! Made me think who to side with as well, no obvious good and bad. I also loved the repeat of events. I swear Richard's name changed to Robert, lol but maybe that was me getting mixed up with the characters. To improve all you need to do is thurily re-read it and change typos which are easy to pick up on. Very enjoyable and a nice twist at the end!

That was all very formal lol. Keep writing you have really good plots!
